Midwives are licensed Primary Health Care Providers, specialized in Low Risk Pregnancy, labour, birth and Postpartum. Midwives offer Evidenced Based care, Continuity of care, Informed choice, Choice of Birthplace( both Hospital and Out of Hospital) and collaboration of care. Studies have shown that Midwifery Care decreases unnecessary interventions during Pregnancy, labour, Birth and Postpartum. Midwives are able to order Ultrasound, Blood work and medications within their scope of care.
Midwifery Services in Alberta are fully covered by Alberta Health Services , meaning you pay nothing for the midwifery services you receive during Pregnancy, labour/birth and Postpartum once you have a valid Alberta Health Care Number.
Midwives provide continuity of care up to 6 weeks postpartum, meaning you get to see the same Midwife or group of Midwives throughout your care.
Midwives are accessible to their clients 24/7 by phone calls and/or emails.
